The Axe21 Urban Church Model

Sherbrooke Quebec

Robert Pinkston and Lucas Aube, collegiate church planters in Quebec, talk about what it’s like to reach French-Canadian university students with the gospel. They explain the challenges that come with urban church planting in an area that is roughly 0.5% Christian, where there is general distrust of the church, and highlight the innovative strategies that have been used to break down barriers and make inroads with the gospel.

Lucas Aube (Collegiate Church Planter – BeU Church – Lennoxville, QU)

Key Points:

  • French-Canadians are the least reached people group in North America, with only about 0.5% being followers of Christ.
  • Contextual ministry strategies, such as having church around the dinner table, are extremely important for removing obstacles, forming relationships, and building trust among Quebec’s university students.
  • The successful model that Axe21 has employed in Sherbrooke has given them a vision to reach other campuses in Quebec by becoming a multi-site church.

Questions to consider:

  • What demographic makes up the most unreached people group in your city? How can you play a part to engage them with the gospel?
  • In what ways can you create environments for organic and non-threatening gospel conversation? What barriers to these conversations exist in your ministry right now?
  • What vision has the Lord given you to expand the reach of your ministry, so that more students will become followers of Christ?
