Campus, Reach

Episode 57: Back-to-Campus Spotlight – GoWeek/FSU Luau

As part of our series on back-to-campus ideas, this episode features two campus ministers from Tallahassee, FL who are part of a multi-denominational, campus-wide welcome week ministry event at Florida State University, known as GoWeek or FSU Luau.

Notable Points:

  • Go Week is an annual “mission trip to campus” that takes place the first week of classes each fall with a goal of reaching incoming freshmen and connecting them to local churches and campus ministries in Tallahassee.
  • Over 10 different evangelical campus ministries and churches are involved in planning and participating in Go Week together. This collaboration encourages a spirit of unity and shared mission to reach students with the gospel.
  • 250 student volunteers from the campus ministries are recruited during the preceding Spring semester.
  • Working with other campus ministers on a joint event creates accountability and encouragement, and also allows each leader to play to their strengths in executing the event.
  • Go Week kicks off on Tuesday night the week of on campus move-in, and lasts through Friday night. Activities include dorm move-in assistance, lawn games, late-night pancakes, partnering with university activities, and a giant Luau.
  • “Our students are part of hosting the largest party that will happen during welcome week.”
