Episode 72: Collegiate Women and Christian Community

In the second of our two-part series with Marian Jordan Ellis, author, teacher, and founder of Redeemed Girl Ministries, Marian talks about the reasons that collegiate women leave the church, why Christian community is so important, and how we as college ministry leaders can provide it.

Redeemed Girl Ministries (RGM) exists to see women redeemed by the grace of Jesus, transformed by His truth, and live for the glory of His name. RGM puts on evangelistic events called “Girls’ Night Out” on college campuses all across North America to reach women who wouldn’t normally set foot in a church and introduce them to Christ.
Since their founding, over 9,000 women have trusted Jesus at evangelistic outreach events and thousands more discipled through RGM resources and small groups. Get the RGM App HERE

Notable Points:

  • By their second year of college, 80% of teenagers no longer identify as Christ followers.
  • As college ministers we must understand the power of the sin-shame cycle, and how the enemy uses this to keep students out of the community of faith. To combat this, we must help introduce students to the grace of Jesus and to life in Christian community.
  • Collegiate women particularly can struggle with misplaced identity, or looking to something other than God to name them. Truth spoken in community can counteract the lies believed in isolation.
  • Ministry to collegiate women must come through relationship and the power of presence.
