Episode 89: Porn Part 2 – Develop a Plan for Success

In this episode, Mitch Tidwell returns to the Collective podcast to talk more about pornography, the grip it has on college students, and strategies for helping them break free. This week, Mitch shares a step-by-step process called “The First 30 Days” that walks a student from porn addiction to recovery to freedom.

Notable Points:

  • As a leader, the most important part of helping a student break free is being present as caring investor in their lives.
  • “The First 30 Days” is a process for breaking free from addiction and moving to recovery.
    • Step 1: Confession. The student must recognize their brokenness, confess it to God, and want to change.
    • Step 2: Media Fast (social media, TV, entertainment, etc.) – We intentionally stop seeking comfort from media, and seek the Lord.
    • Step 3: Find a Sponsor – This is someone who is older (church member, ministry leader) and who commits to serving as accountability to the students.
    • Step 4: Identify Triggers – Have the student document, in writing, the circumstances surrounding any time they are tempted or fall to sexual sin.
    • Step 5: Stay Clean – If at any point in the 30 days, the students slips up, the whole 30 day process starts over at Day 1.
  • The 30 days is just the beginning of the process. Continue to walk with students to fill their lives with Christ.
