Episode 27: Measuring Missionality in your Ministry

It can often be difficult to measure success in ministry. In this episode, Patrick Langan shares a tool developed by Intervarsity for measuring missional Christians in your ministry.

Notable Points:

  • Three ministry areas to measure: Conversions, Numerical Growth, and Missional Christians. The lead-measure is Missional Christians. If we succeed in making Missional Christians, the other two measures will follow.
  • Missionary posture: Engaging the mission of God in your context by embracing “sentness” and living the gospel incarnationally.
  • The most valuable first step for students is to intentionally pray for their lost friends.
  • Key Indicators of a student who is living missionally:
    • Are they praying for non-Christian friends?
    • Are they building intentional relationships?
    • Are they sharing their faith regularly?
    • Are they practicing spiritual disciplines in their personal life?
  • The goal for student leaders: Reach other students and help develop missional disciples.
  • Setting numerical goals inspires and motivates, and allows us to know when adjustments or innovations are needed.
